Ariana DeBose’s performance at the Baftas has gone viral.
DeBose, well known for her appearances in Hamilton and Westworld, earned the Bafta for Best Supporting Actress in West Side Story last year.
The actor, 32, returned to the awards show this year, when she sang a song inspired by this year’s leading and supporting actress candidates.
The Baftas were held on Sunday, February 19, at London’s Royal Festival Hall. The evening’s host was Richard E Grant. The main talking points from the awards event may be found here.
At the event, DeBose sang “Sisters Are Doin’ It for Themselves,” a song by the Eurythmics in 1985.
DeBose inserted a verse midway through the song in which she namechecked all the female stars in the crowd, to whom the camera panned as they were addressed.
“I envision all the girls in the room supporting and encouraging everyone here,” she sings.
“Hong Chau, Dolly D, Kerry, and Carey (capital C);” Dame Emma, I adore you; Ana, you were amazing in Blonde; Danielle D, you broke my heart; and Michelle, I’ve always admired you.

“I couldn’t say I was a fan of that rapping,” a third individual stated.
There was also confusion at the event when Carey Mulligan was wrongly awarded Best Supporting Actress.
CODA actor Troy Kotsur, who won Best Supporting Actor last year, delivered the award in sung language.
The name Carey Mulligan was incorrectly stated by the sign language translator while Kotsur was signing that Banshees of Inisherin actress Kerry Condon had won.
All Quiet on the Western Front dominated the nominations this year with 14, followed by The Banshees of Inisherin and Everything Everywhere All at Once, both with ten.
